  5. Flickr /Smugrug

My mistake. It is SMUGMUG. Funny name but makes more sense than the name I quoted. Mairi
  6. Flickr /Smugrug

I had forgotten about that sale of Flickr, everything seems to be the same so far, but I suppose I had better refrain from referring people to my Flickr galleries. Smugrug is a weird name for image posting isn’t it? Then again, I suppose you could say the same about Flickr

Flickr now Smugrug . Nothing ever stays the same, I'm sure there will be teething problems. Mairi

  9. Wacom Intuos Photo Tablet problems

Yes, good point, never thought of turning the whole program off.
  10. Wacom Intuos Photo Tablet problems

I posted about this problem several months back I received answers from both yourself and Tinion, the removal of that tick solved a lot of problems it was a nightmare for quite some time. be warned after updates it does sometimes turn itself back on. I bought my P.C. from P.C. Specialists I mentioned this problem to them, I posed the question " would there be any problems if Windows Ink was turned off" the answer was no. I did explain my P.C. is used for photography 98% of the time I have no need for it. It's been turned off for 2 months now with no problems I'm aware of.
  11. Wacom Intuos Photo Tablet problems

Yes you would. I foolishly assumed that a move to W10 would be different, but I was surprised at all the settings in the Wacom Intuos Photo. The Wacom preferences pop up when I boot up as if I want to change them every time, there is probably a setting to turn that off too. Perhaps it’s my age now, but if an experienced user can get frustrated with kit they have used for nearly 25 years, what does that say. User error, o the kit getting over complex and filled with options most of us don’t need or want.
  12. Wacom Intuos Photo Tablet problems

I seem to remember we have discussed similar problems before with this tick box. You would think Wacom would have it turned off by default and let those that want to use it turn it on. Plus make it more visible on the setup.
  13. To carry out some demonstrations of Lightroom and Photoshop at my camera club recently I installed a new Wacom Intuos Photo graphics tablet onto the clubs W10 laptop. I was a little embarrassed at the demo to discover I could not gain access to any drop down menus in Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) and the action of the standard sliders in ACR and Lightroom was far from smooth. On opening Photoshop I also found that I couldn't gain access to any of the tools grouped on the toolbar such as the dodge and burn tools, but the issue affected all the tools. It took me some time the next day to discover the issue. There is a need to turn off the option to Use Windows Ink, and once I discovered it, I recalled it was something I had to do previously in W7. Now though, you need to remove the tick from the Use Windows Ink box for Photoshop, then select Lightroom and do the same for that too. For good measure I selected all other too and removed the tick there also. It's a small point, but it completely ruins the use of the Wacom in Photoshop and Lightroom
  14. Photo Club scorer

Used in Newton Abbot club according to the website. There is some demo software and user guides to download from the website given above. Google play app cost 1.99 for android devices. Apple devices app cost is probably similar.

I don't know anyone who is using the system, but I would think the developers would know of a few. I think it was developed by club members and used in their club as a scoring system. It looks like it was developed for multiple judging so 3 judges could use the app to score and the results are sent to an excel spreadsheets automatically. It also sounds as if the whole club could judge, if they all had the app and a smartphone or tablet for example. We use pen and paper for the one night we do whole club judging and it's long winded to add up the results and give them out on the night. Similarly one judge could have the app and score the images. Might be interesting to hear commentary, but not the score and wait until the very end to find out the results. I am sure the web site had details of how it all worked for them. The PAGB e-news carried similar details. http://www.pagbnews.co.uk/newsletter-archive Download issue 204 from the link above for the photo club scorer write up.
  16. Photo Club scorer

Tonion, I did have a look at this site, do you know anyone who is using this scoring system and how? is it to allow a multitude of people like members to rate images?

http://visiclef.net A few BB Forum members may be interested in the above link about a Photo Club Scoring system using mobile phone apps. It was drawn to my attention through the UK PAGB e news newsletter. Probably beats typing fingers scrolling through large spreadsheets, been there, done that, got the T-shirt. Looks like there maybe some AV' s to look through on the site as well.

  21. DPI image size

I was unable to test large images against HD ones at the camera club this month, because when we got to our meeting rooms, the power had been cut off. Some issue involving the energy company, but it meant our meeting had to be cancelled. I may try next month if time permits

Thanks Barry. I should have looked in the PDF file before asking you! All complete now. Paul
  24. Creative techniques in PTE9

I am away from home right now Paul, but I think the missing numbers are those videos I offered free on YouTube. The file size started to get a bit big, but if you remind me when I get home in a few days I can give you a link to them if you want them all in one place With regard frames, I couldn’t care less what the judges say. Many of them are just repeating lines they heard others say, but it all depends what your doing and who the show is for. At the present time a frame can look pretty good on screen, but what the judge says depends on the images in the frames. Most judges have trouble with still images and treat AV exactly the same which it isn’t. I don’t think I have used frames for a competition, but with a couple of AV ones coming up, maybe I will
  25. Barry I bought your creative techniques videos a few days ago and have found them to be up to you usual quality but I am a bit puzzled as I have 10 videos numbered 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, and 13. Have I somehow lost 1, 2 and 11 or were they just omitted for some reason. I'm quite happy with what I've got but would hate to miss out on any of them. One thing strikes me about the frames though. I have in the past twice submitted AVs which had a very delicate thin line around the outside of each photograph and both attracted adverse comments from the judges who said that we were there to look at the photos and the outside line just distracted attention from these. I wonder what they are likely to say about an ornate frame around each picture. Have you had any problem with this? Paul
  26. Cartwright Pt - Australia - From a Drone

Yes, the people I have spoken to also say it a bit scary at first, but you gain confidence in the machine
  27. Cartwright Pt - Australia - From a Drone

My son flew his in wind I would have been wary of, which demonstrated that the Mavic Pro can cope with more than you think. Even when a strong wind warning came up in the screen, it was still pretty steady. My son took note of its position on take off and how much it drifted in strong wind after going straight up to 120 mtrs. It was no more than a foot or two. But, you have to build up your confidence gradually. Wait till your 400 mtrs off a headland over the sea
  28. Cartwright Pt - Australia - From a Drone

Not yet, I did run it out over a quarry, but wimped out because it was a bit windy. I may have a play with it tomorrow and try.
  29. Cartwright Pt - Australia - From a Drone

That looks good and It adds a whole new aspect to photography doesn’t it? Have you taken the Mavic to its maximum height and range yet ?
