  1. Today
  2. Barry, I enjoied a lot with PE 7 long time ago. Now unfortunately I can no more use it (even if I have the DVD and the key code) because Photoshop 7 does not work with Windows 10 64. Anyway, following your advise, I am quite satisfied with Topaz Studio because It works perfectly with PS actions. So, in case of ripetitive work, I find it relatively simple and fast
  3. I’ve always had a interest in this type of work, even before the digital age. I used to hand colour mono prints and scare the life out of judges who didn’t know what to say about them. 😀
  4. I have forgotten how much fun it was doing arty type photos like this. I used to like getting a watercolour effect. There were w few actions available, but I did manage to do without this in the end.
  5. The Art of Cornwall and The Art of Photography have been re-created using PicturesToExe 10 beta version and posted on the page below called Miscellaneous Older AV. Impressions is also done, but will be posted later https://beckhamdigital.photo/misc-av/

  7. Claudio Unfortunately, you cannot recreate a slide show from an originally made executable file. To do that you must have the project files and related images and music. I’ll have Impressions stored somewhere. Regarding filters, time taken will reduce as you become more familiar with them. Try applying them to reduced sized images, sometimes you get a better result that way and it’s faster, especially if your not working on a state of the art PC
  8. Barry, I sent you (via email) a copy of your old videoshow “Impressions” which I stored a long ago. I must once more congratulate for the achieved result that you got with a certainly less sophisticated SW at that time! I am now palying with Topaz Studio, which I find definitely interesting. Nevertheless, it takes quite some time, both for the huge number of filters offered, and for the processing time required
  9. I’ve had a bit of time today and I’ve found the project files of 2 of the old slide shows that Claudio refers to. They were The Art of Cornwall and The Art of Photography. I had to make a few changes, mainly to the end credits with the new web address and a change to Mp4 60p video. However, what I found is that although I made these sequences a while ago, I enjoyed revisiting them. I think that if you can watch one of your own slide shows some years later and you still find it OK, you must have done something right. Generally our skills improve and old work can quickly become dated I also appreciate that self praise is no praise at all 😀 I’ve recreated them using the beta version of PTE 10 and so far I’ve not seen any issues at all. I’ll post them as soon as possible. Not found the sequence called Impressions yet, but I must have it somewhere.
  10. Hi Claudio, Topaz Studio is free, so no need to worry about paying. As you have discovered there is a lot to play with. The filters you are after Topaz Impression in Studio and Topaz Texture Effects in Studio are probably the main ones you will need to get you closer to your desired look. Like I said if you get hold of the old filters you can upgrade to the Studio version for free. The new AI filters are stand alone from Studio and use their own interface. Again a free upgrade is available if you have the old filter. This makes using Topaz a bit disjointed. As Barry has also said using them takes a little effort, tempering their effect is needed on most of them to get the look you are after. I think the Impression filters give you the artist type filters, oils, watercolour, drawing etc. Using texture effects gives you a choice of textures and you can add your own.
  11. Last week
  12. Thanks Barry, no hurry!! Whenever you have time it will be appreciated Claudio
  13. I may be able to publish them in time, but not sure when. They are old shows and I would need to find the original files to make an Mp4. I’m not sure when I can get to that at the moment
  14. Thanks Barry and Tinion I have seen the webinars, which I found very interesting, nevertheless I am even more confused. I downloaded Topaz studio (at moment I have not been asked to pay anything yet) and I was happy to discover that it is directly linked with PS CC, so there is non need to do anything to activate plug ins. The problem is that the number of filters is very big (most of them haven no interest for me) but it seems to me that some filters I have seen in the webinars are no included. I have the impression that Topaz changes regularly the filters offered in sake of modernity(?!). In princip It seems that Topaz is a good instrument, but rather complex and relatively time consuming, With a lot of patience and using several layers, masks, brushes and opacity I am able to reach almost what I want , but I must confess that I have a strong “nostalgia” for the results Barry had 10 years ago. By the way Barry could you publish the three videoshows I mentioned at the beginning, and which I sent you via wetransfer? THanks again Claudio
  15. That is massively better
  16. I agree with Tinion above. Those filters have all changed and my view of what is on offer is probably a little out of date. As time permits I will try and do some videos on these subjects,, but right now I’m rather sidetracked. One thing to remember, all the good filter effects take a little effort, but it’s worth it. It’s rare to get great results straight out of the box, so to speak.
  17. Hey everyone, I’ve got some cool new music ready for everyone. Free to use with attribution: On my Dark / Ominous 2 page: MIDNIGHT MIST – What lurks in the mist? Muah hah hah! https://soundimage.org/dark-ominous-2/ On my Sci-Fi 7 page: CROSSING THE LIGHT YEARS – This might work under the intro to a space-themed game or project. https://soundimage.org/sci-fi-7/ And on my Technology 2 page: DIGITAL DAYDREAMS – Maybe one day machine-beings will daydream…I wonder what it will be about. https://soundimage.org/technology-2/ Enjoy!
  18. Thanks Barry, it seems a little bit more complex than I thought!! Nevertheless, I appreciate your advice and I will continue to investigate. Hopefully I will come out with a final decision
  19. http://blog.topazlabs.com/software/impression/ These webinars may help you decide.
  20. Hi Claudio, As you have discovered, the history of Topaz Labs used to be individual plug in filters that were stand alone or can be used as a Photoshop plug in. The latest incarnation is Topaz Studio which has several built in filters to be able to perform similar to Adobe Camera Raw but also with added other filters on top of that. Topaz then started to add some of the original plug ins to studio, calling them pro adjustments and charging for each one. The old Impression filters are now Impression in Studio, Simplify is now Simplify in Studio and Texture Effects is now Texture Effects in Studio. Users which bought the original filters are able to upgrade for free to the Studio version. The latest plug ins are now Artificial Intelligent filters, some which have original equivalent. Be sure to check the spec of your computer if intending to install Studio or the AI filters as some can be processor or graphic card memory hungry. The Topaz Labs website has details of the spec required for each product. I would recommend you install the trial version of Studio then add Impression for Studio as a start. If able, try to buy the older filters, as they used to offer most of them on CD at photo shows in the UK for around £100. This can save you a lot in upgrades to newer versions. Also once you have purchased one filter and registered on the Topaz website, be prepared to wait as they offer users cheaper prices immediately new products come on offer. Also search the web for discount codes for topaz labs some are 50% off. EBay also has the original filters quite cheap from usa.
  21. Barry, I watched carefully your videos and I saw that you have memorized 3 filters from Topaz Labs: namely Topaz Impression, Topaz simplify 4 and Topaz texture effects. I visited Topaz website but I am a little confused with the large offer they have, and I do not see clearly how to select “Impression” or others. Could you give me some advice on what I would better choose and buy, and how to install it in PS CC? Thanks again Claudio
  22. Thanks very much Barry, I will study your videos and let you know Saluti Claudio
  23. Filter effects like the ones you mentioned I what I often call digital doodling, because in some respects the filter technique is very much like doodling. I mean that when you start, you may not have a crystal clear idea where you'll end up. Most of my filter effects are a combination of a specific filter effect, but some ducking and diving depending on what I see in the image. Hence the doodling reference. I can't be specific about those effects you mention because they were done a while ago now, but the techniques I use don't change much Take a look the this set of videos for a video called Filter Fun This may help explain the sort of things you need to do with filters There are two videos zipped together here on the same subject There's an even older filter video here I hope they help
  24. Point taken Barry. This one taken from a slightly different angle changes the perspective completely.
  25. Thanks Barry, i will be happy to wait!
  26. Claudio Bear with me for a day or so and I’ll try to give you an explanation. I’m away from the PC right now, but don't recall receiving anything via wet transfer. I have all these slide shows
  27. Dear Barry, I sent you a message (via wetransfer) because I wanted be sure to clarify what I was meaning. I am interested in some special textures I saw on some of your videoshows around 10 years ago. I selected three videoshows, named “Art of Photography”, “Impressions” and “Art of Cornwall”, which I particularly liked, and I copied and stored in my PC. My question is if you have published any tutorial or any other info regarding how to achieve such textures. I sent you my stored copies in case you might have lost your originals. I would be very grateful if you could give any advice on such subject Thanks in advance Best regards Claudio P.S. Did you receive my wetransfer massage?
  28. Does that bridge naturally take our attention across it to an area of the image that is not the strongest ? The three windows to the left are stronger, but we are led away from them. Nice quality image
