    Specific Properties & Animation Tutorial

Dave Just a post script. I actually did not realise what the actual size of the default resolution in P2E was. Deciding to create a 4:3 a/v, I had re-checked my understanding of the different aspect ratios before starting and so in the last few days had co-incidentally started to create all my stills at the 1440 x 1080 size. So again, thankyou, for that CUSTOM resolution suggestion, something else I did not know. Certainly been a good week this week for my old grey cells. George

George,I expect you know that the default resolution of a 4:3 show in PTE is 1024x768? I would seriously suggest that you use a CUSTOM 4:3 show where the res is 1440x1080. On the VERY RARE occasions that I use 4:3 that is what I do. Here is an example where I have placed 9 copies of the same video in such a show. 1024 is not divisible by 3 but 1440 is and it makes the calculations a LOT easier. The border is easily changed to a thicker one in PTE's O&A/Preferences.

Dave, It has taken some while, sorry, but now, changing it to pixels and re-reading your earlier comments, I think I have finally got my head round your 'PS' advice. Thankyou. George

In that case you need to use the Aspect Crop to change all nine videos to 4:3. You will then lose some from the sides of each video clip. You could also "squash" each video using the zoom parameters? DG

Just changed to pixels, but sorry, still cannot decipher what the information is telling me. At this stage I was just trying to get my head around the Properties Animation tab and so I have not yet converted the videos within P2E so don't know if that makes a difference to size, but at the moment each clip is 1920 x 1080. Yes they are 16:9 and I am working on a 4:3 P2E project. However I had calculated, rightly or wrongly, that I could get nine video clips in my Wall.

If you change the % symbol to px then all of the Pan X and Y measurements are relative to the top left corner. DG

I am working in pixels - you are working in percentage? DG

Yes was looking at the ps, but also trying to match it up with my attempt. (Screenshot attached) - only got the first row of movies prepared at this stage. Not sure though what the information is telling me but looking at my screen shot, assume that the Y parameter for A, B, and C movies should all be the same so I need to adjust C, and can only assume that for the X parameter, A & C should be the same. But then is the gap between A& B different or same as that between B & C. And that is just the first row.

At this stage, I was not really worrying or concerned about a border, more that each video (top/bottom and Sides) were on the straight line with each on either side. So, for example, all three movie clips on the top row were the same specific distance away from the top of the screen. Like the 'noughts and crosses' parameters, all in a straight line.

There does not have to be a "margin" if you are prepared to accept a compromise? You can, for instance, use Aspect Crop in O&A/Properties to convert all clips to the AR of your project. If your project is 16:9 then use that Aspect Crop to create 3 rows and3 columns. If you want a border around each clip you can use Image Crop and Border to do it. DG P.S. Each video would then be 640x360 and x pan for all three rows would be zero; 640; 1280. Y pan would be zero for row 1; 360 for row 2; 720 for row 3 Based on a 1920:1080 16:9 project.
  14. Sure I have seen it and have been trying to find one of Barry’s tutorials that explains the ‘Properties/Animation tab in detail. What I am thinking of doing is to add nine edited video clips to one slide via O&A to make a Video Wall. Because of differences in aspect ratio there will be a margin and so was aiming to calculate exact positions (X & Y) of the nine clips first before importing. Any ideas as to what the tutorial is please?

    Website down

It appears that the domain registrar, got something wrong and severed the whole domain name from the website and the emails. Its nice to work with professionals isn't it. There was never any reason to touch my domain anyway.

Am I just unlucky or is the internet out to get me. This morning Tuesday 15th my entire domain was not operational. No web site, no emails. It’s 12 hours later and still no change. The powers that be are aware of it. They have confirmed that, but I suppose my site being based in the UK means when I’m awake the technical brains in the UK are asleep 😂

    sync for hard drives.

Only yesterday I bought 2 new 3 Gig Sata drives for Raw image backup use via an EZSTOR. The internal Sata drives slot into the EZSTOR cassette and act like a very large USB stick. I label them A and B and that will take all my images for quite a while.

    sync for hard drives.

I use a Network Attached Server (NAS) device to do this automatically. It holds two hard drives that are set to be mirrored with each other (RAID 1). These NAS devices are not all that expensive compared with he cost of cloud storage and reasonably easy to set up.

    sync for hard drives.

Personally I like to do this myself and would need to build up a lot of trust before I relaxed enough to allow a computer to take over. I am guessing here, but I can see how some people may have some difficulty with this subject, if they lose track of what has been backed up and what has not. There used to be systems that backed up certain folders and added what was different, I am sure there still are, but I've chosen not to use them. I store all finished images in folders under the dates of year and month. When I back them up. It's easy to see where I'm up to. I open the from drive located on the PC and the external to drive located off the PC and compare the folders. Then backup to drive A and then drive B.

    sync for hard drives.

I will have completed my move by the end of the month, where my internet will be much better. My question is, I store all my images on two separate hard drives. Is there an easy way to sync, any changes I make to my images on one hard drive with the other without having to do it manually. I have an old sync program at the moment, but I spend my life checking my backup drive to find that changes have not been made.

    MS Office 365

I think the key to learning new software is patience. We get used to where everything is with out old software and we want to get back to that position with new software over a weekend. It ain’t going to happen. I am more relaxed these days and I allow the knowledge to build up gradually. Cramming just doesn’t work for me and as long as I get the new software running, I allow time to fill in the blanks. The thing is, we know an option is bound to be in there somewhere, it’s just finding it 😀 I too wanted to migrate to Outlook and I must say it’s darn good for setting up emails. I was surprised to find that the email address and password is all I needed. Windows live isn’t like that at all. However it’s all up and running on all our PC’s and working ok. It would be great if you could set everything up on one computer and then sync it to others over wi-fi
